#ENDSARS: The Government on top of the situation
As #ENDSARS protest by the Nigeria youth against the police brutality continue to gain strength, the Presidency has released a statement through the official twitter account of Personal Assistant on New Media to President MBuhari -Bashir Ahmad that
"A Presidential Panel’s recommendation; 37 former members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad have been pencilled down for dismissal from service and 24 others will be prosecuted for various acts of professional misconduct, the Police Service Commission reveals."
He also claimed that "The Government on top of the situation Several meetings have been held with; Pres. @MBuhari, VP @ProfOsinbajo, SP @DrAhmadLawan, Speaker @femigbaja, the Chief of Staff to President, Chairman, Police Service Commission, the IG of @PoliceNG, the ES of @NHRCNigeria and governors."
Meanwhile, he had said on October 15th, 2020 that "The National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by VP Osinbajo, has directed the immediate establishment of Judicial Panels of Inquiry to receive and investigate complaints of Police brutality or related extra judicial killings, the assignment to be concluded within 6 months (max.).
From today’s NEC Meeting, chaired by VP. • Judicial Panels of Inquiry formed to investigate police brutality. • Panels have 6 months to complete assignment. • Council directs governors to immediately establish a Special Victims Fund to compensation victims of brutality."
Meanwhile, the #ENDSARS protesters has rebuffed these statements and these are the reactions:
